Backstory:
Orphaned as a child, Utena would have shared the fate of her parents if it had not been for the timely intervention of a mysterious Slayer. Through the years that she spent in the Ohtori orphanage, she vowed to use her own abilities to become a Slayer and protect others,
and to find the woman who saved her life. As far as Utena is concerned, no princess in a puffy gown could have fought a demon with such skill and talent, so her rescuer must have been a prince, and that is exactly what she will become.
